The Best Lilac Day

Posted by Joyce (Montana, United States) on 5 April 2011 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

I waited and watched until they were the brightest and fullest that Spring, and cut just the ones the tree could spare and still look lush, then I said thanks, and brought them inside to grace the kitchen, just like women have been doing for countless centuries, year after year. Boy, am I ready for spring.

Thank you for your visit and comments. I so enjoy hearing from you and seeing the world through your lens.

Beautiful visual effect, both in colors and forms.

@Francisco Romero: So nice to hear from you, and know the image pleases.

Well, Spring has arrived if you are getting lilacs like favorite flower....where I live we grow spindly, non-smelling lilacs. So I'm filled with envy.

@Susan: Hi! I am cheating. That's last year' photo taken in May. Here this morning the sky is gray/white and the ground brown, with inch of wet snow, again, and I refuse to take another photo....until spring. Well, maybe if sky is mostly blue and the sun stays out....Longest winter in years, here. Soon you will be in flower. I'm from L.A. and miss rose bushes. But, all the precip here will make this valley a screaming green eventually. I am going to paint flowers on the big rocks around my place. That's the answer to living in the Rockies! The one material that is endless and prolific, and free. Should make interesting subject for photos later. Thanks for your comment, Susan. Lilacs are such a gift, so temporary, only a couple weeks here.

I've got lilacs just starting here in Indiana. They are always such a delight. You have to wait until May?

Yes May, and only a brief blossoming and they are gone. Wish they would stay much longer.
