Glastonbury North

Posted by
Joyce (Montana, United States) on 19 October 2012 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

This is looking the opposite direction on the plateau that offers such splendid sights, and shows off it's first Fall snow here.

Thank you for your visit and comments. I so enjoy hearing from you and seeing the world through your lens.

Beautiful landscape!

Do folks 'work' that land or just live on it and work someplace else ?

19 Oct 2012 8:07am

@Ronnie 2¢: A few travel 25 to 50 miles to work. Many home employed, retired, some like Sherpa do travelling sales. Many work at the Resort. Many work several odd jobs to make ends meet. The challenging terrain and weather makes it not the ideal or easy place to live for people. An impressive number of us do try to grow our own food, and there is a large survivalist attitude of living "off the grid" consciousness in Montana. You can live simply here. Is that a good answer? Or were you just kidding? :D

Francisco Romero from Carbajal de la Legua, Spain

Very beautiful scene!

@Francisco Romero: Thanks Francisco. We do have similar scenes you and I. I tell people about my Spanish Blog friend who posts awesome images of your unique mountains. And they are really different than ours. Mountains must have individual souls. :D

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom

Still nothing like Glastonbury here in Somerset but incredibly beautiful. A lovely landscape image Joyce

@Doug: Does your Glastonbury look like suede ever? I like the Fall look, with tempered color and brisk air.

Mhelene from Villiers-sur-Marne, France

A splendid composition !!

@Mhelene: Thanks! I see this a couple of times a day, and it wears many costumes of weather and season & sun cycles.

Slackwater - Don from United States

A beautiful landscape including the mountainous area ready for winter's snow. I liked your answer to Ronnie2¢'s answer about life in Montana. I'm glad some places in this country still attitudes of survival and self-sufficieny.

@Slackwater - Don: Glad you are of that mind too. I think much more of it is coming.

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom

I will see what I can do about putting some images of Glastonbury on in a couple of weeks, but I warn you it's quite an unusual place !

@Doug: Yes. Look forward to some images of the first Glastonbury, actually, our namesake.

Judy aka L@dybug from Brooksville, FL, United States

I am amazed at how sparse the trees are on all that open land. I liked your reply to Ronnie ... and am thinking of the gasoline costs to commute long distances to work. The open space is beautiful, though, and your photo documents it so well.

19 Oct 2012 4:37pm

@Judy aka L@dybug: It is actually high desert, in the foothills where the road leads. Thanks Judy. Today we talked over coffee how grateful and lucky we are to live here, and so simply.

Our friend in Missoula shared this gorgeous YouTube video of your wonderful state of Montana from the air.

@Judy aka L@dybug: We do have some wonderful rugged beauty. Thanks for the vid!
